By Huashu (花叔), from the bird-watching app Mingji (鸣迹). 11,064 bird species, one sticker each, across 44 orders and 250 families: every living species in the IOC World Bird List v15.2 (the 163 extinct species are not included). Each species comes with structured data: taxonomy, names in up to 43 languages, cross-database IDs, and where every sticker came from.

The stickers are free to use for almost anything, including commercial work, under PolyForm Shield 1.0.0: the one thing you may not do is use them in a product that competes with our bird app (another birding, bird-ID or field-guide app or site). The data is MIT. Please read NOTICE for the parts that come from third parties, and About the reference photos below.
Eighteen of the most colourful and distinctive groups, 24 stickers each, picked so that no two look alike. Every sticker shown here meets the quality bar.

data/names.csv.11,030 stickers are AI illustrations. For each species we found a reference photo (or, for 453 species where no single photo was good enough, a board of several images plus a written description), drew the sticker with GPT-image, upscaled it, and cut it out. 34 are cut out from real photographs and passed a blind review against the original photo.
Every AI sticker was then scored by a separate reviewer against the reference for field marks: bill, eye, legs and feet, plumage pattern and colour. In the last round, 852 borderline stickers (80–82) also got a second, blind review, and 211 of them failed it and were redrawn. Borderline stickers from earlier rounds did not get this second review.
"meetsQualityBar": true): AI stickers scoring 80 or above, plus the 34 photo cutouts. These are illustrations, not field-guide plates. Treat them as a friendly picture of the bird, and check a field guide before relying on a fine detail. If you spot a mistake, please open an issue — corrections from birders are the most valuable contribution this project can get.
Each sticker's reference is listed in sticker.reference, with its page, author and license. They break down like this (AI stickers, by species):
| Reference | Species |
|---|---|
| Openly licensed photo (CC0, public domain, CC BY, CC BY-SA) | 1,986 |
| Board of openly licensed images, or a written description only | 46 |
| Photo under a non-commercial or no-derivatives license (CC BY-NC, -ND, …) | 5,071 |
| Photo with all rights reserved, or under Macaulay Library terms | 1,500 |
| Photo whose license we did not record | 2,017 |
| Board mixing images under different terms | 410 |
The stickers are new drawings, not copies, and the reference photos are not distributed here. Whether a drawing made from a photo is bound by that photo's license is not settled law. If it matters for what you are doing, filter on sticker.reference.license.
